Banana Chia Smoothie

Throw in banana's the natural energy bar and Chia seeds that are rich in omega-3 fatty acids along with a handful of almonds which are anti-oxidants with a boost of protein and fibre.. and you have a power packed quick smoothie. Go Banana's with it!


Banana's are so easily available and this smoothie is a quick breakfast smoothie that will give you the energy to kick start your day. We have put it two ways to serve the smoothie. You can have it the leaner, healthier way topped with some sliced banana's or you can decide to treat yourself by serving this with a scoop of ice-cream to take it to the next level.

Ingredients:

For the Smoothie:
1 tablespoon almonds, chopped
1/2 teaspoon vanilla essence
1 ripe large banana, peeled
1 tablespoon chia seeds
1 1/2 cup milk

For the garnish:
1 banana sliced
A few scoops of Vanilla ice-cream
1 tablespoon cranberries, chopped
1 tablespoon of almonds, chopped
1 tablespoon of pistachio, chopped

Method:
  1. Blend all the ingredients for the smoothie to a nice thick creamy smoothie in a blender. 
  2. Pour into a tall glass till its 3/4 full. In one glass add one or 2 scoops of ice-cream and then toss in the chopped nuts. In the second glass, add in the banana slices and toss in the nuts. Enjoy with the glass of your choice.. Serve with the rest of the banana slices on the side topped with the nuts. 

Notes:
  1. Add sugar if you need your smoothie more sweet. The banana's we used were ripe and sweet, so we didn't need any additional sugar. You can also use honey instead of sugar.
  2. Adding ice-cream is optional and you can use an ice-cream flavor of your choice. We like it best with Vanilla ice-cream and if we fancy a bit of chocolate, we just like to drizzle some nutella sauce over the ice cream.
