Sharjah Shake

One of my absolutely favourite milkshakes ever that has no sugar added to it but is ever so sweet and will want you coming back for a second! No sugar and sweet.. How is that even possible.. You probably think I am out of my mind.. but, no I am serious and this recipe is so simple and epic. 


The name Sharjah shake sort of should give you a hint on what the ingredients are. Yes, you got it right, the famous DATES from the desserts of the middle-east. I recall drinking the milkshake in a juice shop in Chennai, India where it was called Sharjah Shake and because the drink was so good, it always stuck with me.

Ingredients: 
1/2 cup pitted dates & some to top the drink
1/2 cup Figs (tips removed) & some to top the drink
1 teaspoon vanilla essence
1 1/2 - 2 cup milk

Method:
  1. Make sure you check the dates (though they are pitted) to ensure they have no seeds and then chop the dates into smaller pieces. 
  2. Blend all the ingredients together. Adjust the amount of milk based on the consistency you want your shake. 
  3. Before you serve, garnish with chopped dates and figs. 

Notes: 
  1. Use milk of your choice, we used whole milk or semi-skimmed.
  2. Chopping the dates is not mandatory but is preferred to make the shake smooth and to ensure you don't have any whole dates when you drink your shake.

Tip: If you want to really treat yourself, add a tablespoon or two of vanilla ice cream when you blend the ingredients. This will add a rich flavor to the milkshake. You can also top the milkshake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, topped with some chocolate syrup or honey and garnished with chopped dates and figs.
